Although we don’t reach the official start of the new season for a few more weeks, the mood is in the air — it’s summer in Philadelphia.
Summer classically brings us more casual, friendly and low-barrier to entry events in the city. It’s a chance to plug back in to your social or networking groups, connect over a refreshing drink in a beer garden, or celebrate the communities that work so hard to make the tech sector strong all year. So while this month’s roundup offers up some serious professional development opportunities, as well as a chance to dive into our theme of Racial Equity in Tech, we also bring you some chances to hang out, meet up, and attend a (Pride) ball.

Code for Philly Hack Night
The local chapter of Code for America is hosting its first in-person event since the start of the pandemic this month. Its “hack night” returns at Indy Hall’s new clubhouse near 2nd and Spring Garden streets in the From the Future offices, and will include updates about the organization, introductions and hacking for good. The event will likely be held indoors, but potentially outdoors if weather permits. Bring your laptop and proof of vaccination.

ImpactPHL Summer Social
On the heels of its May impact summit, ImpactPHL is hosting an event to “reflect, celebrate, meet new friends, and reconnect with old ones.” The happy hour is for the social impact community, including those who are impact investors, philanthropists, financial pros, social entrepreneurs and others who want to align financial assets with values.

Show me the Money: Strategies to Grow Your Business with Other People’s Money
The African American Chamber of Commerce of PA, NJ, DE (AACC) hosts this event to introduce business owners to growing their businesses with venture capital. Attendees will lean about venture options and resources, understanding government-based funding options and hear about success strategies in a pandemic business environment. The night will offer programming, networking and socializing at P4 Hub‘s new space in Germantown.

PhillyCHI x Design Brew Summer Social
The crew over at PhillyCHI (which hosted its annual design slam last month) is welcoming summer with an evening of networking at Love City Brewery‘s new beer garden, located adjacent to its property on Hamilton Street in Callowhill. It’s a networking opportunity for folks in the UX scene, and those looking to get into the industry. The first drink’s on PhillyCHI!

Tech360 Conference
This one-day tech conference is marketed as the Philly suburbs’ “premier innovative business technology conference,” featuring tech education, leadership, innovation and networking with the region’s companies and IT pros. This year’s conference includes topics like VR and AR, telehealth’s effects on privacy and security, the war in Ukraine’s impact on data privacy, and how to stay ahead of vulnerabilities in networking infrastructure. Meet with suburban IT pros at Penn State Great Valley in Malvern for an afternoon of programming and networking.

Blacks In Technology X Techqueria career fair
New (to Philly) org Blacks in Technology is partnering with Techqueria for a virtual career fair to promote the hiring of diverse talent for local tech companies. Applications are still open for folks who are job seeking and organizations looking for talent. “Our goal is to help you stand out from the crowd and to shine a spotlight on Black and Latinx talent,” the orgs say on the event page.

Black and Brown Entrepreneurship Expo
The University City Science Center‘s Thursday gatherings — aka Venture Cafe — is set to host an afternoon entrepreneurship expo for the student teams participating in its FirstHand program. The students received mentorship and funding to develop their own business plans, and will be presenting their businesses at demo tables alongside other Black and brown-owned businesses.

Science after Hours Summer Ball
Though this event leans more toward the science side of our STEM community, we couldn’t wrap a June roundup without a Pride event. Tickets to this one hosted at the Franklin Institute include access to the museum, dancing, science and “revelry spread out across the museum for you to explore.” Guests are encouraged to dress to impress, as the event celebrates ball culture.
