DC Power Moves: After more than 30 years, FTI welcomes a new CEO

Chantilly, Virginia-based Future Technologies, Inc. (FTI) has selected its new CEO.

Robert “Bobby” Miller succeeded Ram Gupta, founder and former CEO of over 30 years, as CEO of FTI, a prominent federal technology solutions provider. Miller was previously president of defense missions and support at EverWatch, an advanced government solutions company.

Miller has more than 15 years of leadership experience in government contracting. He has also been the president of IT service management company Ian, Evan & Alexander Corporation and held senior management positions at PRO-telligent, which provides professional and technical services to civilian, defense and national security clients.

“FTI has earned a reputation of excellence for delivering mission-critical services that strengthen the national security posture for its defense and intelligence customers,” Miller said in a statement. “It is an honor for me to join this world-class company, and I look forward to leading FTI as we continue to grow our capabilities and deliver excellent service to our customers.”

EY names Mid-Atlantic Entrepreneur Of The Year

Professional services network Ernst & Young announced Matt Malone, founder and CEO of Groundworks, as the winner of its Entrepreneur Of The Year 2023 Mid-Atlantic Award. Groundworks, based in Virginia Beach, Virginia, is a foundation and water management solutions company.

Malone was chosen by a panel of past winners, COs, investors and other business leaders in the region. Candidates for the award were judged based on their demonstration of building long-term value through entrepreneurial spirit, purpose, growth and impact and other qualities and accomplishments.

“The honor of being named an Entrepreneur of the Year Mid-Atlantic Award winner is the result of a team effort and should be shared by the entire company,” Malone said in a statement. “Great companies are built by great people, and I’m proud to serve the men and women who have dedicated themselves to the Groundworks mission.”

Floreo’s new Chief Medical Officer

Floreo, a virtual reality-focused behavioral health company has appointed Dr. Varun Choudhary as its chief medical officer. This role makes Choudhary the clinical leader of the DC-based company, as well as responsible for supervising its clinical research-based validation activities and medical affairs.

Choudhary, who was formerly at Talkspace and Magellan Health, brings 20 years of experience to this position. Similar to Floreo, Talkspace offers online therapy, and Magellan Health is a healthcare company. Choudhary also previously worked in private psychiatry.

“I am thrilled to join Floreo, particularly as the adoption of the company’s technology continues to accelerate,” Choudhary said in a statement. “After spending nearly two decades as a practicing medical provider as well as with a number of innovative health technology companies, I am energized to be part of Floreo’s mission.”

Here’s who else is making local leadership moves:

• Veterans Evaluation Services, a subsidiary of government services company Maximus, added Kaleidoscope Affect CEO Major Gen. Linda Singh as a strategic advisor. The company is headquartered in Tysons, Virginia.
• Maryland state funding and investment agency TEDCO appointed a new board of directors.
• Second Front Systems, a public benefit software company, in Wilmington, Delaware selected Tyler Sweatt as its new CEO. Sweatt is based in Ashburn, Virginia.
• Chantilly-based UltiSat, which provides advanced communications solutions to government, humanitarian aid and critical infrastructure markets, appointed Jim Scott as Chief Strategy Officer, a newly created position at the company.
• The Maryland Tech Council, the largest technology and life sciences trade association in the state, welcomed a new chair and slate of technology and life sciences leaders to its board of directors.
• Dave Gardner, located in Arlington, Virginia, joined Baltimore-based StraighterLine as Chief Technology Officer.
• Arlington-based Higher Logic has brought cofounder Rob Wegner back on as its CEO. According to the Washington Business Journal, Wegner served as the company’s CEO for a prior stint of over a decade. He replaces outgoing CEO Kevin Boyce, who will leave the top post by the end of the year.
