There’s a change at the top of Coded By Kids, the well-known Philadelphia nonprofit that provides tech and entrepreneurship education to underrepresented young people: Danae Mobley is the new CEO, according to a Tuesday announcement.

Mobley was previously Coded by Kids’ COO and has been with the organization since 2017.

“I am truly honored and excited to step into the role of CEO for an organization that I’ve watched grow and evolve,” Mobley said in a statement.

She’s taking over from her husband, Sylvester Mobley, who founded the tech education org in 2014 and is also managing partner and cofounder of early-stage venture capital firm, Plain Sight Capital. He stepped down from his chief executive role at Coded by Kids to focus on building the VC firm, Danae Mobley told Technical.ly. He will remain on Coded by Kids’ board of directors and continue to act as an advisor.

In her statement, Mobley expressed respect for the org’s existing structure and hinted that she intends to continue trying new things.

“The foundation of this organization was built on strong vision and an unmatched belief in the potential of our young people,” she said. “I can’t wait to keep pushing boundaries and building an atmosphere of excellence for all underrepresented people looking to explore tech and innovation.”

In addition to her role at Coded by Kids, Mobley is also the executive director of 1Philadelphia. The coalition of stakeholders focused on tech equity in Philadelphia — an initiative of Coded by Kids — has committed to raising $20 million for tech equity initiatives. The org is also co-hosting Philly Tech Week 2024 alongside Technical.ly.

Mobley was recently named as Philly’s Tech Community Leader of the Year in the 2023 Technical.ly Awards.

“[Mobley is] a driving force of innovation and positive change,” said Isaac Ewell, chairman of the Coded by Kids board. “She will undoubtedly strengthen Coded by Kids and is committed to fostering an environment where young talents flourish and our mission thrives.”

Coded by Kids’ free technology and entrepreneurship courses are currently accepting registrations from middle school, high school and college students for spring and summer programs.
