International coworking behemoth WeWork announced its plans to open a fifth Philadelphia space at 11th and Ludlow streets, in a building appropriately called 1100 Ludlow.
WeWork will occupy the seventh and eighth floors of the East Market development project, covering 50,5014 square feet. The space is expected to open in the fall of 2019.
The new site — just across the street from The Yard’s first Philly location at 21 S. 11th St. — is the fifth local WeWork space since the global company expanded into Philadelphia in 2016, starting in Northern Liberties inside the revamped Schmidt’s Brewery building; its other locations are at 1430 Walnut St., 1601 Market St. and 1900 Market St. (New York City, by contrast, has 60.)
The expansion comes just two weeks after WeWork announced a new D.C. location, and a few months after WeWork opened its first Maryland space in February.
Per a press release, WeWork now houses 480 companies and a total of 2,762 members across the city. Lex Miller, general manager for WeWork’s northeast and mid-Atlantic regions, said the new location makes perfect sense for the company.
“Market East is a hub of innovation and a hotbed for the growing ecosystem of creators and entrepreneurs in Philly, and WeWork is excited to be a part of it,” Miller said.
