Overview

About Certara

Certara accelerates medicines using proprietary biosimulation software, technology, and services to transform traditional drug discovery and development. Its clients include more than 2,000 biopharmaceutical companies, academic institutions and regulatory agencies across 62 countries.

What we are trying to solve

TFL Studio is a core part of our platform—used by clinical and statistical teams to create analysis-ready outputs at scale. It is still growing, and we are now entering a phase where the product needs deeper workflows, clearer patterns, and expanded capabilities that help users do more while maintaining consistency and confidence.

This role is not about reinventing TFL Studio. It is about building on the foundations already in place, extending the patterns we have established, and continuing to evolve the product with clarity and purpose. You will take the baton and lead the next stage of its growth.

As we build a larger platform around TFL Studio in 2026, we also need someone who can ensure that the features we add now will fit cleanly into the broader product ecosystem. This is a secondary responsibility—acting as a design partner to ensure alignment across products—while your primary focus remains on expanding TFL Studio itself.

Responsibilities

What you will be doing

Your main responsibility will be to design, deepen, and scale the TFL Studio experience.

You will:

Own and expand TFL Studio

  • Lead the end-to-end UX for TFL Studio, shaping its next generation of workflows, configuration tools, and automation experiences.

  • Build on the patterns already established—extending them, not replacing them—so the product grows in a consistent, predictable manner.

  • Translate complex user needs into clear interactions that help users confidently configure, generate, and manage analysis outputs.

  • Create content, flows, and design decisions that reduce cognitive load for technical and non-technical users around the world.

  • Work closely with engineering to refine requirements, resolve edge cases, and ensure implementation fidelity through iterative development.

  • Identify opportunities to scale patterns, simplify workflows, and elevate product clarity without disrupting established foundations.

Ensure TFL Studio fits into our evolving platform

  • Collaborate with another product designer to align TFL Studio with new platform components planned for 2026.

  • Evaluate upcoming TFL Studio features through a platform lens—ensuring they work within shared patterns, navigation, and mental models.

  • Contribute to discussions on cross-product consistency, but without owning the design of the new products themselves.

  • Surface opportunities where shared components or patterns can support both TFL Studio and future modules.

Advance the design system and branding

  • Use the existing design system to ship work efficiently.

  • Identify gaps revealed by TFL Studio’s complexity and propose scalable, reusable patterns that support long-term growth.

  • At times, you will design graphics that enforce our brand for the product, help content, or for internal or client-facing events (conferences, parties, etc.).

You will collaborate daily with product managers, engineers, and domain experts to deliver a product that users trust for critical workflows.

Qualifications

What we are looking for

  • 3+ years of relevant product design experience
  • A systems thinker who thrives on extending an existing product
Someone who enjoys building onto a foundation—expanding patterns, improving workflows, and scaling complexity without reinventing the product.

  • Experience designing configuration-heavy or multi-step workflows
You know how to create clarity when many objects, states, and relationships must work together.

  • Strength in interaction design and content design
You make complex ideas understandable, especially for users with varied technical backgrounds.

  • Comfort working on a product still evolving
You can design within ambiguity, propose structure where it's missing, and iterate responsibly.

  • Design system fluency
You can apply patterns consistently and contribute improvements that work across multiple products.

  • Collaborative working style
Skilled at partnering with PM, engineering, another designer, and SMEs to refine scope and ship high-quality product experiences.

  • Tooling and process familiarity
Strong Figma proficiency, experience working in iterative development cycles, and enough technical understanding to collaborate effectively with engineers.

This role is not for a UI-only designer. We need someone who understands the problem space, enjoys shaping complex systems, and is motivated by improving and expanding a product that users depend on for critical tasks

Certara bases all employment-related decision on merit, taking into consideration qualifications, skills, achievement, and performance. We treat all applicants and employees without regard to personal characteristics such as race, color, ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, nationality, marital status, pregnancy, physical or mental condition, genetic information, military service, or other characteristic protected by law.

Employees at Certara do tech work that means something. Their software enables key transitions in the pharmaceutical development pipeline (from discovering new molecules, to predictively modeling their effects on humans, to actually conducting clinical trials) and streamlines regulatory approvals for drugs and medical devices, getting new treatments to patients faster.

Since Certara develops an integrated platform (“Certara Cloud”) and also offers multiple solutions or products tied to that platform, ideas and demand abound. What the company needs is more people to execute these ideas into reality: software engineers, data standards experts and product managers (and more!: software testers, clinical SMEs in PK/PD and TFL, support specialists, customer success, quality, etc) who can develop highly reliable products in the service of medicine.

With ~2,400 customer organizations across 66 countries, Certara has a truly global footprint, and is a leader in biosimulation, model-informed drug development and (increasingly) clinical trial data standardization and workflow automation.

Of Certara’s ~1,400 employees (430 of whom have Ph.D.s, Pharm.D.s, or M.D.s), and a track record of successfully acquiring 20+ complementary companies in the life sciences space, the team is large and growing. The company has proven a draw for technologists who prefer autonomy and thrive on the challenge of doing application development in a highly specialized scientific domain.  From what we heard in interviews with employees, it’s clear why. Certara, and its subsidiaries including Philly originals: Clingenuity, Synchrogenix, GlobalSubmit, and most recently Pinnacle 21, have made the list of Best Small & Medium Workplaces™ by Fortune and Great Place to Work®.

Certara respects the professionals who work there and recognizes their worth beyond the office walls. Generous PTO, flexibility when “life happens,” subsidized healthcare for the family, one-on-one career coaching — all stem from the company values. A brand new, spacious office in Radnor, PA, offers spaces indoors and out for breaks, snacks, coffee, workouts and games. Staff report how easy it is to decompress and enjoy the camaraderie of their “work fam.” If you’re looking for a new challenge in your career and work that creates tremendous impacts in the world of drug development, they’d love to hear from you!
