As a mom and entrepreneur, Tammira Lucas often brings her daughter along when getting business done. But as humans do, she found her daughter was spending too much time with a device, and Lucas herself wasn’t spending enough time on hers.
Now, with a new coworking space, Lucas is looking to provide room for both of them to do what they need to do.
“I thought, ‘What if there’s a place where I can work and she can play?'” said Lucas, who is also a cofounder of the Baltimore Innovation Award-winning Moms as Entrepreneurs.
Lucas and her sister TaKesha Jamison, who is also a mom, are officially opening The Cube on Monday. Located above Uncle Wiggly’s in Stoneleigh off York Road in Towson, the coworking space was designed with bright colors, and has meeting areas, and office needs such as WiFi and a printer.
The children’s play area is a separate room, and is also stocked with amenities.
Memberships vary depending on how often users want to access the space, ranging from a daily rate of $25 to $365 for unlimited access. There’s also a tier of membership for folks who don’t want to utilize the “coplay” option.
That speaks to Lucas’ desire to open it up to everyone. They also want to emphasize family, and that starts with the founding team. Along with the sister-cofounders, Lucas’ husband Robert is also an entrepreneur and played a big role in transforming the space.
“This is a family business that is being built on a family foundation to help other families build their businesses,” she said.
