The Maryland STEM Festival is set to close out with a window into what students are building around Baltimore.
The weekend has a bevy of ways to get making. Here are a few spots offering open houses for a look at how education in these tech fields is evolving:
- Baltimore City Community College has its annual STEM Community Day at 2801 Liberty Heights Ave. The event, held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12, is a way to learn about what’s happening at the college. The agenda includes demos of robotics, 3D printing and other machines, as well as info sessions and some music. Register here.
- Notre Dame University of Maryland is hosting a STEM Family Fun Fair on Saturday, Nov. 12. The event is focused on activities for students in pre-K through 8th grade. Educators and participants can learn from faculty, and there will be hands-on tasks. It will be held at Fournier Hall (4701 N. Charles St., Room 103).
- STEM takes the stage on Friday night at the Strand Theater on Harford Road for a play about one of the most famous female mathematicians in history. Hypatia’s Math is a tale of a woman in Roman Alexandria who develops math skills, but runs head-on into the religious and political currents of the day. It’s a collaboration between the Strand Theater and Spotlighters Theatre. Performances are Friday and Saturday night.
