If your curate your Instagram right, it can be an escapist retreat, a learning tool or an art gallery in your pocket — and while few people probably go hyperlocal on Instagram with all of the content from all over the world, there are local Instagrams that fill those niches, while reminding you that your own backyard is pretty cool.
For our latest social media roundup, we looked for Delaware ‘grams with eye-catching photos and not a lot of text-heavy posts. Some are people, some are orgs, some are businesses, but all have a handle on using their brand to make scrollers pause.
In no particular order, here are 15 of them:
1. Beth Baker
If you follow the #Delagram tag, you’ve probably seen Beth Baker’s stunning photographs of Sussex County.
2. Delaware Public Archive
Every day is a mini history lesson via vintage photographs, like this 1917 image of African American World War I draftees.
3. Delaware Fun-a-Day
February is Delaware Fun-a-Day Maker’s Month, when Delawareans take on the challenge to create a work of art each day, some of which are shared on its Instagram. The exhibit will March 6 to 15 at the Center for Creative Arts in Hockessin.
4. Miss Jone
Wilmington designer Miss Jone’s Mom Sh!t bags became a viral hit on Instagram, making her a true homegrown influencer.
5. State of Delaware’s Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs
All kinds of artifacts, from the highly impactful to the fascinating mundane (like this old server pad from the Old Court House Tea Room) from the State of Delaware’s Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs collections.
6. Delaware on Tap
The Delaware on Tap app offers all kinds of info on Delaware breweries. The Instagram is a particularly good place for it to show off local label art.
7. AbbyVenture
This Delaware-based adventure blog follows Abby Shepherd on her travels around the U.S. and the world.
8. Delaware Wild Lands
This nonprofit’s Instagram features lots of nature — including wild animals — in Delaware.
9. Delaware Humane
Thinking about adopting a(nother) pet? Follow Delaware Humane for cute pics of available animals, as well as news when they run incentives like their 40 for $40.
10. Delaware Arts Spotlight
Who’s your favorite Delaware artist? If you don’t have a long list to choose from (or if you do but it’s never long enough), follow this Insta for mini features on members of the Delaware arts community.
11. Del Pez Mexican Gastropub
We could do a whole post on local food Instagrams (in fact, we have), but Del Pez really has the food photography thing down.
12. Cozy Ever After
This Newark-based Etsy shop sells whimsical items for the home, and uses Instagram to draw people with its cute photos.
13. Nextfab Delaware
The Wilmington makerspace always has cool locally made items to share.
14. Kyle Kaminski
Another Sussex County photographer who captures the best of the Delaware beaches.
