This Week in Jobs: Which job will be your first-round pick?

Team jersey time.

Editor’s note: Every week we ship an email newsletter featuring the region’s most exciting career opportunities. We’ve lovingly called it This Week in Jobs (aka TWIJ — “twidge.”). Below is this week’s edition. Here’s the last one we published; it’s meant to live in your inbox. Sign up for the newsletter here.

And the first-round pick is …

The universe sure does work in funny ways. Case in point, it can’t be a coincidence that the NFL Draft takes place during allergy season. The experience is eerily similar.

Standing amidst the pollen waiting for a big sneeze to materialize is a lot like staring at the TV waiting to see who the Eagles pick. In both situations you’re on the edge of your seat for an uncomfortably prolonged period of time, desperately hoping the end result will be satisfying.

On the other hand, it’s highly possible we’ve taken too much Benadryl and this is nonsense.

Either way, wipe the pollen out of your eyes, squirt some Afrin up those nostrils, and go on and breathe in this week’s lineup of jobs.

The News

The Dev Conference is only one week out and the speakers are ready to go. Who is speaking, you ask? Well wouldn’t you know it, we have a sneak peek for you. Get those tix for only $20 here and we will catch you there.

The smarties at Drexel University paired up with the brainiacs at Ireland-based Trinity College to develop an energy-storing, conductive ink. Keep your eye peeled for future updates on how the university plans to apply this opportunity, and don’t forget about all of the innovative careers available at Drexel.

Delaware-based startup TheraV has been working hard to develop and grow its ELIX product — a wearable, drug-free therapeutic device for amputees experiencing phantom limb pain. TheraV is one of only two Delaware companies selected for the top 100 in the FedEx Small Business Grant Contest and its founder and CEO Amira Idris Radovic is slated to give a lightning talk at Introduced by, on May 9 at Philly Tech Week presented by Comcast. Learn more about the company and reach out to the team here.

“Before any event, like Philly Tech Week’s upcoming Dev Conference, do your research on who will be attending and exhibiting — if the event is on Meetup, you can publicly see everyone who’s RSVP’d. Google the companies that will be tabling and do your research on open roles listed on their careers page. Have a game plan before going in and know who you want to meet. It’s a more effective, optimized way to network.”
