Do you really want to battle crowds at the mall? Here's an alternative that supports local artists and businesspeople of color.

If you’re going to leave the house to shop on Black Friday, forget the mall — instead, hit the Doubletree Hotel on Concord Pike, where the annual Melanin on Market event hosted by Cherné Altovise promises to be the biggest one yet. It’s meant to be a multicultural business expo for trendsetters and style icons.
The event, held from 9 a.m.–5 p.m. on Nov. 24, will feature vendors from all over the tri-state area, speakers, music and networking.
Tickets are $10.
