Ecommerce giant Amazon is hosting its second annual career day in the region — virtually — on Sept. 16.

The free nationwide event is looking to connect job seekers with career opportunities. With more than 100,000 operational roles open at Amazon, attendees will also have a chance to learn about the 33,000 corporate and tech roles open at Amazon that support businesses such as Alexa, Amazon Web Services and Prime Video. Amazon Career Day will kick off at noon and over three hours, there will be fireside chats and panels with career experts and Amazon executives keen on sharing tips and insights about how to find your next job.

“COVID-19 continues to affect millions of people across the country, and people are eager for the opportunity to get back to work,” said Beth Galetti, SVP of human resources at Amazon, in a statement. “We’re continuing to hire people from all backgrounds and at all skill levels, and we’re glad to be able to mobilize our team of experienced recruiters and HR professionals to help job seekers across the country learn about opportunities at Amazon and elsewhere.”

Last year, 17,000 attendees came out to Amazon Career Day events across six cities while more than 200,000 job seekers applied for roles leading up to those events. The job market continues to shift drastically as we work through the coronavirus pandemic: Roughly 50% of job seekers are looking for a new position because they were displaced by COVID-19, according to a recent survey by Amazon and Morning Consult, while 61% are looking for work in a new industry.

Amanda Augustine, a career advice expert with TopResume who will speak on a panel at the event, said opportunities like this can help professionals develop a path for their next big career choices, despite not being able to interact in person.

“Networking hasn’t died … it has just gone virtual,” Augustine said in a press release. “Professional organizations and meetup groups are now location-agnostic, so opportunities for connection and knowledge-building are endless.”

If you don’t want to wait, Amazon currently has hundreds of technical job openings in the DMV region.
