Excella’s tech internship program ranks high in this new listing from Vault.com

Arlington, Virginia-based Excella recently ranked #3 in the nation on Vault.com’s “2020 Best Tech & Engineering Internships” list.

Excella is an agile tech firm helping organizations transform their ideas into tech solutions. The company manages its Extension Center internship program at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. The program enables students to gain hands-on experience under the mentorship of Excella’s technologists.

Vault.com conducted a nationwide survey of 14,000 current and former tech and engineering interns to gather these findings. The site’s rankings and reviews looks at an array of categories including the prestige of schools and internships, diversity, quality of life, compensation and more, according to a press release.

Excella also ranked #6 for best internships for employment prospects and #11 for the top 100 best internships overall.

“The Extension Center is thrilled with Vault’s ranking today and the impact we’ve had on our interns over the first ten years of the program,” Margaret Archer, Excella’s director of university programs, said in a statement. “The ranking is a testament to the passion of our mentors for their technical craft and their role preparing our interns for success as technical professionals.”

At the Extension Center, students studying science have the opportunity to work with Excella’s software developers and provide remote software development support to some of Excella’s federal and nonprofit clients. As part of the program, some successful rising seniors are chosen to participate in a 12-week summer associate program with the company, and graduating seniors are invited to interview for full-time positions at Excella.

In 2020, Excella will relaunch its Extension Center as the Exelaration Center, with plans to expand its centers to more campuses outside of Virginia Tech. The revamped program will also partner with corporations and nonprofits to use their real-life software development projects for students to work on during the program. Each center will be university-based and offered year-round.

“No company should be without a renewable tech talent pipeline that starts on campus” Exelaration CEO Steve Cooper said in a news release. “Today’s technology-driven organizations need a job-ready workforce, in addition to world-class software, and these Exelaration Centers will deliver both.”
