A new website launch coincided with the release of Vital Signs 12 from the Baltimore Neighborhood Indicators Alliance-Jacob France Institute at the University of Baltimore.
Since 2001 BNIA has been collecting quality-of-life data about Baltimore by dividing the city into 55 community statistical areas and tracking different neighborhood indicators. Vital Signs themselves are broad categories, like “Housing and Community Development,” while indicators are subsets of each category — for example, “Percentage of properties under mortgage foreclosure.”

The release of the 12th edition of Vital Signs adds another 8,000 data points — 150 indicators for each of Baltimore city’s 55 community statistical areas — to the compendium of neighborhood information available on the updated BNIA website. Vital Signs data is in the process of being uploaded to the city’s open data portal, OpenBaltimore.
