Youth journalist Khira Moore visited the Made in Baltimore Holiday Pop Up Shop to create a holiday gift guide for Baltimore teens. Made in Baltimore is an organization with a mission to “support makers and manufacturers in Baltimore City.”
As the holidays are approaching, we at The CHARM Report are here to help fulfill all the items on your gift wish list.
If you’re from the Baltimore community, you must have heard of the brand new pop-up shop in Remington: Made in Baltimore. It’s located at 2700 Remington Ave., in Remington Row.
I recently perused the storefront and was taken aback by the affordable prices and beautiful merchandise, all created by local artists and makers. I love their inclusion of Black-owned, woman-owned, and LGBTQ+- owned small businesses in their storefront. When you go holiday shopping this winter, shop local.
The first products to catch my eye were body care products for Baltimoreans who value clean, fresh, and smooth skin. There’s Nourishedx TinyAllure foaming sugar scrub and body butter. It’ll exfoliate and get rid of your pesky dead skin. At $22, it’s the perfect gift for your loved ones. When you hug them, you can smell the beautiful lavender and hold on tighter.
The painting in the center promotes balance and stability. It would be a perfect addition to your sunroom or workout room. The artist Ashytj Creates has titled the piece “Black Womxn Doing Yoga.” At $20, it’s a low price for such a fine piece of artistry, and your purchase will support a Black-owned business.
This camo windbreaker is perfect for the snowy weather. You can be warm and comfortable while also repping your city. At only $35, you’ll also be supporting a local business that strives to “…provide solutions for crime & poverty through manufacturing & entrepreneurship (Made in Bmore).” If you don’t buy for the great quality and fabulous fashion, then buy it to support the business that’s trying to make a difference in our community.
While this guide is only a handful of products available at the Made In Baltimore storefront, there is so much more to be found with a journey down to Remington (including CHARM merchandise, created by our youth editors)! By supporting small businesses and shopping locally, you’re benefiting your community.
CHARM editors will be at Made in Baltimore on Saturday, Dec. 18, for a reading, Q&A, and personalized shopping assistance.
