Columbia-based cybersecurity company Tenable said Monday that it reached a deal to acquire cloud-native security company Accurics for $160 million in cash.
Accurics, a two-year-old company based in the San Francisco Bay Area, specializes in cloud-native security. In particular, it focuses on detecting and thwarting risks in infrastructure as code (IaC), which allows teams to manage storage, servers and other cloud-based infrastructure using code, rather than manual processes. The company also developed an open source tool for DevOps, called TerraScan.
The company was founded by serial founder Piyush Sharrma and Om Moolchandani, who has held tech leadership roles at AutoGrid and General Electric.
Following an expected close of the deal late in the third quarter or early in the fourth, Tenable plans to integrate Accurics’ offerings into products focused on container security and application scanning.
“Together, we will enable organizations to push their cloud and ‘as code’ journeys forward — with IaC, with containers and compute instances,” Tenable CEO Amit Yoran said in a statement. “This is all about accelerating innovation and simultaneously enabling security in ways previously not possible.”
It’s the latest in a series of acquisition deals for Tenable, which grew since its founding in 2002 to become a publicly traded company on the Nasdaq in 2018.
Like others, this acquisition adds security tools in a particular area. In February, the company acquired Alsid, a firm which specializes in security of the Microsoft tool Active Directory. That followed the acquisition of operational technology security firm Indegy in 2019, and docker container security company FlawCheck in 2016.
