While only a semifinalist in the inaugural InvestMaryland Challenge, VisiSonics didn’t come away empty-handed during last Monday’s awards ceremony.
The College Park-based startup, which creates products and applications for 3D sound capture and analysis, is the inaugural winner of the University of Maryland Ventures prize, and will receive a $5,000 grant from UMD.
Launched in 2012, Ventures is a joint commercialization effort between the University of Maryland’s Baltimore and College Park campuses. VisiSonics, in fact, was “founded on intellectual property owned by [UMD],” according to a press release.
As for VisiSonics’ work with 3D sound capture, watch the demo video below. With the startup’s technology, clicking on people in a surveillance image, for instance, will make their specific conversation aurally intelligible.
