Events Roundup: 11 Philly-area tech gatherings to be thankful for this month

Before we're in full holiday season mode, get some networking and tech projects in this month. Plus, come help us plan Philly Tech Week 2020!

As we enter the great month of November, we here at Technical.ly have a lot to be grateful for.

We’re officially in the swing of events season here in Philly’s tech scene.

Whether you’re looking to make some professional connections, jump into a civic or health-minded tech project or hear from some of the region’s top company leaders, we have an event for you this month. (And oh yeah! A great opportunity to help us plan the tenth-anniversary Philly Tech Week.)

Take a look at what’s ahead and mark your calendars.

Jefferson Health Hackathon

Kick off the month with a weekend-long, health-focused hackathon by Jefferson Health. The hackathon will follow three tracks — health by ZIP code, what are you wearing and reimagining death — that participants will try to tackle through various tech projects. Networking and a kickoff starts Friday, while Saturday and Sunday are for working on projects and presenting the final results.

TransWork Job Fair

TransWork, a program of Independence Blue Cross, which works to increase access for trans people in the greater Philadelphia area, will hold a job fair with IBX in early November. The fair will go over diversity and inclusion, recruitment and hiring, LGBTQ resource group and insider tips for working at IBX.

Code Like a Girl Community Showcase

This showcase is a night of inclusive tech, inspired by Miriam Peskowitz‘s latest book, “Code Like a Girl“. The event was designed for students, educators, entrepreneurs and technologists who are working “toward an inclusive tech industry,” the event description says. Expect speakers like Morgan Berman, founder and CEO of MilkCrate, and Philly Tech SistasAshley Turner.

SeventySix Capital Sports Innovation Conference

Head on down to Citizens Bank Park for a day of industry talk about sports tech, esports and sports betting. The day will consist of panels, keynote interviews, industry deep dives and a sports startup pitch competition focused on innovations in sports including athlete perspectives, data analytics, media and more. Speakers include former Philadelphia Phillies player Ryan Howard, former Eagles player Brian Westbrook and others.

TECH360 Conference

Out in the Philly burbs? Then this tech daylong tech conference is for you. The conference features tech education, leadership and innovation discussions and has some representation by area companies, IT professionals, leaders and managers.

INCLUSION HACK 2019

Join Meetup group The ITEM for an evening job fair that’ll also host speakers and soft skills workshops. Folks who go can expect a walkthrough on creating a resume, workplace environment seminar and a panel on what current employers are looking for. Grab some business cards and get ready to network.

LIFT Your Story

This series of workshops is designed to help startup founders build and elevate their companies using techniques from leaders in media and technology. The event will focus on brand awareness and positioning, asking questions like “What makes your approach unique?” and “How can cross-industry expertise give your company an edge?” It will be lead by HIFI Chief Strategy Officer Will Griggs.

Philly Startup Leaders’ Founder Factory

A daylong event for founders, leaders and anyone else in the entrepreneurship community. Hear from folks like Guru’s Rick Nucci and Wildbit’s CEO, Natalie Nagele. “This conference aims to energize and enhance Philadelphia’s growing startup ecosystem,” its event page says.

11th annual Klein Innovation Camp

Come to Temple University for a daylong unconference dedicated to the future of journalism. Tickets to the event include breakfast, lunch, various workshops and a lunchtime keynote with CNN TV host, radio personality and sports and political commentator Michael Smerconish.

Philly Tech Week 2020 Launch Event

Join the Technically Media team this month as we continue to look forward to Philly Tech Week 2020 presented by Comcast, our 10th annual, weeklong celebration of all things tech and innovation. Get a sneak peek of the exciting initiatives planned for 2020, review the new event application and submission process, share how you would like to get involved in PTW and network with Philly’s tech and innovation community.

The Next Big Thing Master Class
