At Dreamit’s HealthTech Demo Day, a penchant for machine learning and AI

Over the past 14 weeks, the seven startups in Dreamit’s HealthTech accelerator got personalized coaching, sit-downs with buyers from Independence Blue Cross and Penn Medicine and meetings with investors in three cities.

This Friday, as the program comes to a close, the companies will have a graduation of sorts by way of the program’s Demo Day, happening at The Study at University City.

Prior to pitches from the seven companies, HealthTech Managing Director Adam Dakin will host a fireside chat with execs from Penn Medicine and Independence Blue Cross about the future of healthcare innovation.

During Demo Day, they have the opportunity to continue to bolster their presence in the Philly healthcare ecosystem.

Here are the presenting companies:

• GIBLIB: Makers of a library of surgical procedures and medical lectures from teaching institutions.
• HealthTensor: A company using machine learning to analyze patient data, automatically create physician documentation and diagnose frequent conditions.
• Infermedica: Makers of an artificial intelligence solution used by Allianz Partners, Medicover, HealthLoop and other healthcare firms to help their patients select the appropriate means of care.
• TrekIT: Creators of synchronized, team-based task management tools to improve communication in healthcare teams.
• Trials.ai: Makers of an artificial intelligence platform that helps improve execution in clinical trials by delivering protocol recommendations and automating study design.
• Vitls: Manufactures a wearable device that tracks vital signs for up to six days, enabling early identification of changes in clinical status.
• Vytalize Health: Makers of a digital platform for expanded services and transition to risk-based payment models Medicare patients.

The event is free and open to the public.

The roster of companies span a range of verticals within healthcare, with a slight skew towards machine learning and artificial intelligence (fields that giants like Google and SAP see as essential to the future of healthcare.)

One of the companies is based in Philly: TrekIT, which is led by Penn Medicine physician Dr. Subha L. Airan-Javia.

Last March, Dreamit added $12 million to its war chest via investor Jeff Vinik, owner of the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning and a number of other projects in Florida. As part of the investment, Vinik became partner and board member.

“Each of the startups in our current cohort has made significant progress refining business models, go to market strategy, and advancing customer relationships,” said Dakin. “During Demo Day, they have the opportunity to continue to bolster their presence in the Philly healthcare ecosystem.”
