goPuff, founded in 2013 by Drexel guys Rafael Ilishayev and Yakir Gola, is doubling down on its hometown: the company just expanded its delivery area to include Northeast Philly.
The company declined to disclose the number of employees, drivers or the specific number of customers they could reach before the expansion. It did disclose that 3 million people now reside within its Philly-area delivery zone, doubling its prior reach. (Again, this is the total number of people it can reach, not how many it actually reaches.) Through a mobile app, users can order munchies, home goods and even sex toys from a catalog of 3,000 products.
“We are really excited to increase our influence in the Philadelphia region,” Ilishayev said. “We are and always will be a Philadelphia company and ultimately our goal is to expand our roots.”
One sad note, though: Northeast Philadelphia does not have beer/wine delivery yet. That will be rolled out over the next few months, according to the company.
goPuff, which closed a Series A round at $8.25 million last June, has been using the cash infusion to expand in other markets. The service is currently available in 17 U.S. cities, up from nine in June 2016.
