Zonoff-powered connected home products are now available at Staples [Startup Roundup]

A Penn startup gets a $150,000 National Science Foundation grant, Curalate releases a study on Instagram ads and RJMetrics holds it fifth hackathon.

WHO’S GETTING FUNDED?

Gencore Systems, the startup from Penn’s Computer Science department that offers apps to help computer networks to run more efficiently, received a $150,000 grant from the National Science Foundation, according to founder Boon Thau Loo.

Osage University Partners, the arm of Osage Partners that invests in university spinout companies, participated in a $32 million Series A round for Boston-based Sideris Pharmaceuticals, according to a release. The company, which spun out of the University of Florida, is developing a treatment for iron overload.

WHO’S MAKING MOVES?

Zonoff, the Malvern-based connected home company, launched its partnership with Staples late last month in time for Black Friday, according to a company spokeswoman. Consumers can choose from 20 Zonoff devices in 32 Staples stores across the country and 200 items on Staples.com. The devices include things like sensors, thermostats and cameras.  Preview the devices here.

Barley, a startup based in Carbondale, Pa. near Scranton, launched its product that allows inline editing in WordPress.

WHO’S GETTING BUZZ?

Curalate continues to make waves in national media with its social media marketing studies. The Center City visual analytics startup’s latest study found that among all companies using Instagram ads, Ben & Jerry’s is getting the most followers and ‘likes,’ AdWeek reported.
