In Westminster, a space on East Green Street that was formerly The Medicine Shoppe is now the home of a digital pharmacy’s Baltimore-area operations.

Medly expanded its services to the metro area last week, marking the fourth state for the New York-based service which offers same-day prescription delivery.

“We have seen a lot of success and received really positive feedback from doctors and patients in New York City — our very first market. As such, we wanted to scale up and bring that service to other markets,” cofounder Chirag Kulkarni said. “When assessing what markets we should expand to, we look at regions where we can support as many patients as possible. And it makes logistical sense for us to start with markets close to our headquarters, hence our expansions into New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Baltimore was a natural choice and next step for us, as it’s close to our headquarters, and it’s a market where many patients can benefit from the more convenient and cost-effective pharmacy experience we offer.”

The three-year-old company, which raised $100 million in Series B funding last month, is certified to dispense all kinds of prescriptions. It also offers an app where patients can manage prescriptions, chat with a pharmacist and track delivery. As the location in Westminster demonstrates, it also has a brick-and-mortar space that acts as a fully functioning pharmacy that patients can visit to pick up prescriptions, if they so choose. And there’s continuity, as Medly’s Westminster location is run by Dr. Rohit Patel, who was the owner of The Medicine Shoppe location, and previous customers will still be able to continue similar services.

“We have found that the combination of our brick-and-mortar presence combined with our free, same-day prescription delivery is the most effective when it comes to convenience and efficiency for patients, giving them options that best suit their needs,” Patel said.

Digital health options have been attracting more interest during the COVID-19 pandemic, and Medly is among those growing. With the expansion, the company aims to serve the entire Baltimore area, and plans to scale the team as demand grows.
