Now that Black Friday and Cyber Monday are in the books, it’s Giving Tuesday.
The day of donating and benevolence happens around the world. For those looking to give back locally, here are a handful of campaigns from within the Baltimore tech community. Though they’re timed around this one day, nonprofits are always accepting donations.
BUGSS
The Baltimore Under Ground Science Space runs a community science lab in Highlandtown. The campaign supports 2019 registration for the Baltimore BioCrew, a group of high school students tapping into bioengineering to solve social problems. They’ve taken on challenges like cleaning plastic in the Baltimore harbor.
Code in the Schools
The Station North–based computer science education nonprofit doubled the number of students that its instructors are teaching to 8,000 over the last year, according to its campaign page. It’s raising money to keep growing that number.
Digital Harbor Foundation
The Federal Hill rec center-turned-tech center is looking toward the summer during this holiday season. The Make-A-Summer campaign is looking to serve 250 youth with its summer maker camps in 2019.
Dent Education
The organization supporting young entrepreneurs in Baltimore launched the “Give a Damn, Make a Dent” campaign on Tuesday. For the last two summers, Dent Education helmed Bet on Baltimore, in which youth became founders and got a chance to work in the city’s entrepreneurial spaces.
Health Care for the Homeless
The organization hosts dental clinics that serve men, women and children experiencing homelessness, and is expec. For the fourth year, it’s teaming with Baltimore tech company Figure 53 for #GivingTOOTHDay.
Open Works Baltimore
The Station North makerspace recently celebrated it second birthday, is fresh off events such as the EnterpRISE Venture Competition and Shop Black.

SmartLogic
The Canton software development agency’s team members decided who they would back. Once team members choose who they want to support, the agency matches their contribution. According to a post, campaigns they backed included Alpha Chi Omega, Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, Digital Harbor Foundation, The END Fund, Friends of Indianapolis Animal Care Services Foundation and High Zero Foundation.
Benefit Baltimore 2018
To close out #GivingTuesday, Peabody Heights Brewery is hosting a makers market from 6-10 p.m. to benefit nonprofits including Baltimore Tree Trust, Blue Water Baltimore, House of Ruth, Make Studio, Station North Tool Library and Village Learning Place. More details here.
