Earlier this year, Snag-A-Slip indicated it was making a push to get more boaters onto its platform, which provides a way to book dock space at a marina for an overnight stay. The Port Covington–based startup rolled out a couple of new features this week toward that effort.
Snag-A-Slip launched mobile apps for iOs and Android, CEO Dan Cowens said. The apps allow users to search for a place to tie up based on geography and dates, as well as boat-specific considerations like length, beam, draw and power requirements. The company has partnership with 500 marinas in regions like the Chesapeake Bay, Great Lakes and the Caribbean.
Working with its recently relaunched mobile-optimized website, the smartphone apps were developed in response to feedback that showed increasing mobile adoption among users, Cowens said.
“When we were studying the industry, we thought we would have about three years before we would move into the app world, but the adoption happened significantly faster,” he said.
The company is also introducing a rewards program. “The Dozen Dock Challenge” rewards boaters with a free night’s stay at a slip after booking 12 nights. It’s a way to add some fun and encourage use of the service, Cowens said, as boaters can track progress toward the free night.
The features are being developed at City Garage by a team of 29 people. Cowens said more releases are coming over the next several months.
