Upside is offering cash back at the pump in Baltimore

A startup bringing app-based deals to gas stations started showing up at Baltimore pumps in recent months.
Sister site Technical.ly DC has details on Upside, which offers cash back at gas stations to users. The startup recently began the GasForGood campaign, which offers users the option of donating their savings to nonprofits.
For gas station owners, the app offers a new way to attract customers. So far, it’s available at 650 gas stations in Baltimore and D.C.
The startup’s cofounders previously worked at Google and Opower, and wanted to bring personalized campaigns to businesses that provide everyday needs.
“We wanted to bring that specificity to small, local businesses who probably wouldn’t be able to build it themselves,” said Wayne Lin.
