The last day of school is right around the corner for students in Baltimore.
If your child is more into STEM than soccer, check out some of these science-minded camps and summer programs (with descriptions from the groups’ sites):

Digital Harbor Foundation

  • Circuit Circus: Come learn the basics of electronics through hands-on projects. Campers will create things that light up, heat up, and spin! No prior experience necessary. (July 18-July 29)
  • Experimenting with Arduino: Come learn to program electronics and become an Arduino experimenter! This camp will highlight basic problem solving skills through an exploration at the intersection of electronics and code. (July 18-July 29)
  • Intro to 3D Printing: Explore 3D printing as you turn your digital designs into physical objects! Learn to use software and a 3D printer to design and fabricate your own custom objects straight from your imagination. No prior experience necessary. (June 27-July 8)

Park School Camps

  • Video Game Creation: The Arcade course program entails creating a game with an action for each level, all on one screen. This game is similar to Centipede, Asteroids, and Pac-Man. The main character, created by the campers, can be anything. (July 11-15)
  • Modding, Networking, and Hosting with Minecraft: Minecraft is hugely popular because it’s collaborative, open-ended, and moddable. Our program preserves those qualities and adds a large dose of fun! The week begins with learning the game, controls, recipes, and a bit about hosting and networking. (July 11-15)

Maryland Science Center

  • Design Lab: If you can dream it and design it, you can make it. Team up to create surprising structures, use your imagination to solve problems, and bring your ideas to life. (July 18-22)
  • Abra-Science-Cadabra: It may not be magic, but you’ll make the impossible seem real with a little bit of science. From brain-benders to chemical concoctions, learn all the tricks to put on your own spectacular show. (July 18-22)

How Girls Code

  • Mind, Body, & Coding: Girls will challenge their minds through coding and robotics and will nurture their bodies and well-being through meditation and self-empowerment exercises. Each day girls will enjoy daily programming classes, hands-on robotics sessions incorporating the engineering process, daily yoga instruction, hear from guest speakers, and tour the UMBC campus. (July 11-15 or July 18-22)
  • Middle School Camp: Girls will challenge their minds by strengthening their problem solving skills and learning object-oriented programming using Java. They will nurture their bodies and well-being through meditation and yoga. Each day girls will enjoy Java programming classes, yoga instruction, hear from guest speakers, and tour the UMBC campus. At the end of the week the girls will showcase their week’s achievements. (July 18-July 22)
