Betamore and the Tech Council of Maryland are teaming up

When Betamore announced a handful of changes last month, part of the renewed strategy was focused on looking beyond Baltimore to unite entrepreneurs regionally.
One practical step the Federal Hill-based organization is now taking toward that goal is a partnership with the Tech Council of Maryland.
With Betamore taking up the mantle of the former gb.tc and the Rockville-based Tech Council of Maryland primarily focused on the tech community around D.C., the partnership is a move to establish more collaboration between the communities in greater Baltimore and D.C.
The need to break down divides between Maryland’s two metro areas is frequently cited as a barrier to economic growth, and was formally identified as an issue by the Augustine Commission report that took the state to task for failing to “reach its potential” for economic growth.
“This partnership seeks to break down geographic divides to make better use of all the innovation occurring in this region, build businesses and increase our workforce,” Phil Schiff, CEO of the Tech Council of Maryland, said in a statement.
Through the partnership, the two organizations will work together on events, and offer members crossover benefits.
Specifically, Betamore and the Tech Council of Maryland are planning four joint events over the next year. The first, slated for September at Betamore, will be focused on cybersecurity. Additional events will focus on health IT, access to capital and uniting life sciences companies. Members will also receive access to all events that each organization puts on.
Pooling resources is also designed to create more advocacy for early-stage companies throughout the region, and in Annapolis. Tech-focused bills that would have created tax credits for incubators and angel investors each failed to get out of committee during this year’s legislative session.
