Uber is adding bigger vehicles to its Charm City ridesharing fleet.
Uber officials announced in a blog post Friday that the carrier’s uberXL service would be expanding to Baltimore. UberXL vehicles are typically SUVs or vans with more space (for up to six passengers), but they also cost a premium compared to standard uberX fares.
An uberXL ride will start at $3, plus 25 cents per minute and $2.25 per mile. A ride will run at least $7 — several dollars more than the cheapest uberX fare.
Uber serves Baltimore and Annapolis. The uberXL option is available in more than 20 U.S. markets. Uber doesn’t currently have plans to expand the new service to Annapolis, spokeswoman Kaitlin Durkosh said in an email.
