The need for technology workers in Baltimore is outpacing other major metropolitan areas, according to a new report published by an online job search agency.
SimplyHired.com released its July 2012 U.S. Employment Outlook last week. According to the report, there are more than four million job openings as of June. In Baltimore alone, there are more than 59,000 job openings. But perhaps most surprising is how Baltimore ranks to other major metropolitan areas with respect to tech-job openings, according to a deeper dive published by VentureBeat:
Slicing the data a different way, Simply Hired’s Nathan Beers told VentureBeat that when you compare the number of available jobs and the number of currently employed technology workers, the best places in the U.S to be looking for a job are Baltimore, Detroit, Charlotte, and Portland. By this measuring stick, the Silicon Valley area ranks only eighth. [more]
The Baltimore-Towson area, according to SimplyHired.com, is the best place nationwide to look for tech jobs, beating out Seattle and New York City along with seven other cities. Nationwide, based on job openings listed on SimplyHired.com, there are more than 140,000 job openings in the technology sector.
