Georgetown University student and alumni entrepreneurs now have a dedicated coworking space called Georgetown Venture Lab. The new space, which is located within WeWork White House, is meant to further connect the university to the local startup community.

The space is funded by a $1.5 million gift from longtime entrepreneur, Georgetown alum and CEO of the new the lab, Ted Leonsis. The family of Leonsis, who owns the Washington Capitals and Wizards, chairs the Georgetown Venture Lab. The space can fit up to 90 university-affiliated members.

Georgetown Entrepreneurship hosted an event Oct. 1 to celebrate the grand opening of Georgetown Venture Lab. Georgetown Entrepreneurship, an initiative of the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown, was founded by Jeff Reid to equip Georgetown students with the skills to become successful business owners.

Reid was joined at the event by Brian T. Kenner, the District’s deputy mayor for planning and economic development, Zach Leonsis, senior vice president of strategic initiatives at Monumental Sports & Entertainment, and Arthur Minson Jr., president and CFO of WeWork.
