It’s the job of the Global Virus Network (GVN) to conduct research and train medical virologists to fight emerging viral threats of pandemic proportions.
And, as of this week, the University of Maryland BioPark is the new headquarters for GVN’s work.
In a statement, GVN president Sharon H. Hrynkow laid out her case for the nonprofit medical virology organization’s deciding to become the BioPark’s newest tenant.
“We chose the city of Baltimore as the home of our global headquarters given Governor Martin O’Malley’s strong support for global startups as well as the proximity to [the Institute of Human Virology], a GVN Center of Excellence, and still our greatest supporter.”
GVN, which has two full-time and two part-time employees, had previously been located inside the Institute of Human Virology within the University of Maryland School of Medicine, which is located on South Greene Street, blocks from the BioPark’s location on West Baltimore Street in the Hollins Market neighborhood.
