Here’s what #GivingTuesdayNow looks like in Delaware

Yes, it’s #GivingTuesday again already. Sort of.

In response to the need caused by COVID-19, the nonprofit Giving Tuesday launched a new event, #GivingTuesdayNow on May 5 — the “now” in reference to the emergency need for fundraising during the pandemic.

Just like with regular #GivingTuesday, the annual social media event that falls on the first Tuesday after Black Friday (this year, Dec. 1), #GivingTuesdayNow is a global campaign that uses social networking to raise funds for nonprofits. In most cases, you can donate to participating causes any day of the year, but sometimes you’ll find Giving Tuesday matching events or other incentives on the day that can maximize your donations.

In Delaware, there are several ways to support #GivingTuesdayNow. The easiest is to go to the DelawareGives CovidHelpDE page, where you can donate with zero processing fees taken out. All funds donated via this page will go to COVID-19 relief.

Several Delaware organizations are also participating the old fashioned way, using the hashtag on social media, including Special Olympics Delaware, WestSide Health and a collaboration between the Delaware Blue Coats and Wilmington Blue Rocks. In some cases, funds will go directly to COVID-19 relief, and in others the campaign is an opportunity for non-COVID-related nonprofits to raise funds during a time when not a lot of donations are coming in.
