There’s a new meetup for Delaware Java devs

And apparently it’s “poppin.’”

There’s a new tech meetup in town, and it’s for Java lovers (not the coffee kind, although the two aren’t mutually exclusive).
The Delaware Java Users Group will hold its first meeting June 1, and organizer Tariq Hook, who teaches Java at Zip Code Wilmington, is excited about the local group’s potential.

“People are migrating to Philly to contribute, and there’s no reason for that to happen because it’s going on right here in Delaware,” he said. “It’s poppin’.”
He added there’s plenty of tech talent in Delaware and residents who use Java, and they just haven’t mobilized yet as an open-source community to learn, share and code.
You don’t have to be a coding whiz to be involved.
“I’m looking for folks interested in Java, period, whether you’re a novice or an expert, everyone is welcome,” Hook said.
More than 100 people have already joined the meetup group, and Hook said he expects that number will at least double by the end of the year.
The first meeting is about Hystrix, and it’s described on GitHub as “a latency and fault tolerance library designed to isolate points of access to remote systems, services and third party libraries, stop cascading failure and enable resilience in complex distributed systems where failure is inevitable.” (We couldn’t have said it better.)
Chris Mathews, self-proclaimed kung fu coder at JPMorgan Chase, will be presenting.
The event will be from 6-9 p.m. at the JPMorgan Chase Delaware Tech Center.
