The Health for America fellows — Ellen KourakosMegan Caldwell, Nick Azpiroz and Sandra Hwang — recently unveiled a new web platform and hardware product, designed to improve the lives of those living with congestive heart failure.
The team (which we featured here previously) has spent the past six months working together to develop Meerkat, a scale that looks like a bathmat, which wirelessly syncs to a user’s smartphone.
According to the Meerkat website, “One of the most important indicators of a potential heart failure event is rapid rise in body weight due to fluid buildup in the body. Meerkat’s accurate scale and real-time data transfer provides early warning signs to patients and their caregivers, with the intent of avoiding preventable hospitalizations.”

Meerkat, the team said in a press release, was created to make a patient’s daily weight management routine more manageable.
You can follow Meerkat on Twitter here. (Coincidentally, there’s a new video streaming app for Twitter also called Meerkat that’s currently getting a lot of hype.)
