Peep the five nominees for NationSwell’s Tech Impact AllStars 2017 award and you’ll find two Philly-area technologists, both with a social impact focus in their mission.
Hopeworks ‘N Camden’s Dan Rhoton and Borderwise cofounder Jeremy Peskin are alongside tech activists and entrepreneurs Felicia Hatcher-Pearson, Kelsey Rae Foster and Trisha Prabhu. In partnership with Comcast NBCUniversal, the national competition seeks to highlight innovators working on tech solutions and “help them move the needle forward.”
It’s already kind of a win for both Philly entrepreneurs: landing a spot on the top five comes with a speaking slot at the NationSwell Summit on Solutions, a feature article on the impact-focused website and short videos about the nominees’ initiatives.
Here’s the one on Borderwise:
And the one on Hopeworks ‘N Camden:
Peskin said that Borderwise was in “really good company” among the other nominees.
“The mini-doc about us and Luis (one of our many inspiring clients) plus the opportunity to speak at the NationSwell Summit in November are more than enough, but the $10,000 would be a nice bonus,” said Peskin, who’s a Canadian immigrant himself. “We’ve earmarked it to compensate network attorney for our Dreamers pay-what-you-wish campaign.”
Meanwhile, Rhoton chose to put a specific number to what the cash prize would help with, if his initiative comes out on top:
“If won, this prize will allow 13 additional Camden-area youth to complete the training at Hopeworks and move into tech jobs.”
