After a rocky second quarter of 2020, tech hiring seemed to stabilize in Q3, according to a new jobs report from tech hiring platform Dice.
In the third quarter, 68% of the top 50 employers by job volume increased the amount of job postings compared to the second quarter. And “while overall tech job postings were down 7% for the quarter (in comparison to Q2), postings were virtually flat from August to September,” the report says.
The first and second quarters indicated an increase in mid-level jobs, per Dice. Comparatively, data from August to September shows a rise in senior-level roles. IT Director roles made up 39% of those jobs:
This could possibly predict an increase in more mid-level jobs with new senior-level professionals looking to build out their new teams, the company said. This data also suggests that firms are shifting back to longer-term projects that the pandemic initially made them pause.
The report also includes data on the top tech skills being asked for in job posts, top 50 tech skills and Q3 trends around the country. Here’s how they stack up:

Among Technical.ly’s markets, Philadelphia came in at #16 of top cities per number of job postings. Pittsburgh came in at #25 and Baltimore at #28, while Virginia’s Arlington was #19, Richmond was #29, Reston was #36, McLean was #39 and Chantilly was #47.
