BrainDo cofounders Jenny Du and Brian Cosgrove moved the digital marketing firm’s 15-employee operation to N3rd Street in February.
The company’s new home is a coworking space called THRIVE Philly, which was also founded by Du and Cosgrove.
“The Thrive Philly space gives BrainDo room to grow while also fostering collaboration between like-minded companies,” BrainDo’s Tim Reardon said in an email.
The space — currently only occupied by BrainDo — is 11,000 square feet, and comes with all the accoutrements you would expect of a coworking space: high-speed internet, conference rooms with smart TVs, a café area, office manager and the like.
But in a market now ripe with existing and upcoming coworking spaces, what does this new project have to offer?
One of the key differences, Du says, is that the company is looking for startups that are complementary to BrainDo’s activity and are more established, with larger teams.
The initiative came about while searching for new stomping ground for BrainDo’s operations.
“We started looking at spaces just for BrainDo, but we didn’t want to lose the our ability to scale,” Du said. “We wanted to be able to scale appropriately.”
But could BrainDo’s growth hurt THRIVE Philly’s viability? Du says the team has thought through that:
“We made a cautious decision to separate the brand, and anything in the space is planned around what would be best for THRIVE Philly, not purely for BrainDo,” she said. “If in the future we find that BrainDo is better fit to be in another location, we wouldn’t necessarily decide to shut down THRIVE.”
