Following a $160 million growth capital and debt financing round, Penn Quarter-based FiscalNote has added former D.C. mayor Adrian Fenty to its board of advisors. Bringing his wealth of technology advisory experience, he has previously held leadership roles at Andreessen Horowitz, Perkins Coie and MaC Venture Capital. During his tenure as mayor, Fenty was focused on bringing government and technology firms closer together, something he said he will continue to do at FiscalNote.

“Government activity — from local to international jurisdictions — has immense impact on organizations, and it has become painfully obvious to me that in this globalized world, FiscalNote’s products and services are critical to solving some of the larger information problems organizations encounter,” Fenty said about the policy tracking software company in a statement.

This new appointment comes after Mayor Muriel Bowser named Fenty the co-chair of the ReOpen DC Advisory Group, an organization charged with making plans D.C. to fully reopen post-coronavirus.

Banking and fintech executive Kevin O’Nell has joined Fairfax, Virginia-based MarginEdge as the company’s SVP of payments.

This announcement comes after the software company that manages a digital platform for restaurants recently secured $4 million in venture capital. MarginEdge is putting this funding toward market expansion and product development acceleration. While the company continues on this growth path, O’Nell will be spearheading data integration and payment processes for MarginEdge’s restaurant management platform.

O’Nell joins the company after making an initial investment during his time as the entrepreneur in residence at Osage Venture Partners over the past year. He has previously held leadership roles at Capital One, Citi, FRONTLINE, PeopleLinx and most recently KeyBank.

Northern Virginia Technology Council named Steve Upton as its new chief growth officer. He joins the team from communications company RR Donnelley’s national sales team. He also previously held leadership roles at AARP Services and USA TODAY.

Upton will focus on expanding the tech trade association’s partnerships, sponsorships and membership base.

“Given that AARP is one of the nation’s largest membership organizations, Steve’s background in both business development and B2B marketing will be of tremendous value for NVTC as we prepare for the region’s next wave of technological growth and innovation,” said NVTC president and CEO Jennifer Taylor in a statement.
