Update 11/8/12 2:06 p.m.: While “Believe Wireless Broadband is providing the wireless access points and Internet service to Lexington Market at no cost,” the company has “not discussed anything with the city about the other markets,” said Marian Huller, vice president of Believe, in an e-mail. “Our only contact has been with the gb.tc and Lexington Market.” We’ve corrected the story below to reflect this.
Lexington Market will not be the only one of Baltimore’s historic public markets equipped with free WiFi before 2012 is up.
According to the Baltimore Sun, city CIO Chris Tonjes expects to have free wireless broadband service up and running at Broadway Market and the Avenue, Cross Street, Hollins and Northeast markets. The total cost? Less than $25,000.
Equipment and the broadband access at Lexington Market only was donated by Believe Wireless, an Owings Mills-based company that offers gigabit-speed wireless connections in the Baltimore and Washington, D.C., areas, as well as a gb.tc Lamplighter Award recipient at last Thursday’s Tech Night.
