In the fifth episode of Between Two Founders, the video series featuring conversations with local startup founders from the greater Baltimore region, host Sean Sutherland speaks with founder Aaron Velky.
Velky is the CEO of Ortus Academy, which provides financial intelligence courses and support for more than 1,500 students across 30 local schools and organizations. The group was recently highlighted in a Technical.ly article for the debut of its new platform, The Money Club, which opens up its catalog of learning online.
Sutherland, director of accounts for Kapowza, a local creative agency startup, interviewed Velky about the early days of Ortus Academy, why “financial literacy” is a dirty word, Oscar nominations, and what it’s like coming up through local startup resources such as Towson University Incubator and Conscious Venture Lab.
Sutherland’s thoughts on this month’s episode:
Been a huge fan of Ortus Academy and what they’re seeking to do for young students across Baltimore. As an adult who struggles with money — thank you comic book addiction — I applaud Aaron and his team’s efforts to spread financial intelligence. And hey, math isn’t all that bad either, not like that “Joker” movie …
Between Two Founders was filmed and streamed through Facebook Live on Kapowza’s page. If you’re a startup interested in being featured in an upcoming episode, shoot sean@kapowza.co a note and tell him what makes your startup unique.
