The State of Maryland has seen success in going digital with business filings, and has introduced new infographics on communities.
Now, as the new year begins, the state is pulling the trigger on its latest digital feature. Starting Jan. 1, applications to buy a legal gun are now on the web.
The entire process can be completed online at the state police’s portal. Specifically, the document is the 77R application, which is required to purchase a “regulated firearm.” And the online mode is not just an option — state police will stop collecting paper applications.
The whole goal is “ease and efficiency,” the police said.
“The online completion of forms will eliminate legibility issues and decrease data processing errors,” state police wrote in a statement.
Along with testing, the state conducted seminars with gun dealers to prepare.
