Maryland’s startup economy stretches well beyond any single metro area.

For 2026, Technical.ly’s RealLIST Startups expands beyond the Baltimore region and scans the entire state from suburban research corridors to urban innovation districts. This year’s honorees reflect the breadth of Maryland’s entrepreneurial engine and the founders turning local ideas into scalable ventures.

The 2026 RealLIST Startups cohort spans biotech, cyber, energy and more.

RealLIST is our annual snapshot of early-stage companies gaining real momentum. They represent the next wave of Maryland-grown businesses with the potential to shape industries well beyond state lines.

To assemble the list, we combined our year-round reporting with input from founders, investors and ecosystem leaders across Maryland. We opened public nominations, conducted follow-ups and reviewed each company’s traction. Many of these teams have crossed our radar at pitch events, university showcases and industry gatherings throughout the state.

To qualify, startups had to:

  • Be founded in 2023 or later,
  • Primarily sell a novel, scalable product or service,
  • Demonstrate measurable early progress,
Remain privately held and independent and
  • Be headquartered in Maryland.

The 2026 cohort spans biotech, cyber, energy and more, demonstrating Maryland’s unique mix of research strength and industry diversity.

Now, Maryland: Meet your 2026 RealLIST Startups.
