Right as the Baltimore Business Journal was dutifully reporting that Dave Dombrow would return to Under Armour as Chief Design Officer after a three-month stint with Nike, a storm was brewing online.
You see, the Baltimore apparel giant had just dropped a new version of NBA MVP Stephen Curry’s ridiculously lucrative signature shoe.
Twitter thought they were trash, though, and was merciless with the dad jokes:

There are approximately 1 billion more of these tweets out there as we speak. (And, yes, the shoes even got Crying Jordan’d.)
But we digress.
The hiring news amid the good-natured social media uproar was the return of a familiar face. “Dombrow helped develop Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry’s first signature shoe,” BBJ reports. (It should be noted that the second signature shoe, the Curry 2, has sold much, much better than the first.)
Dombrow begins Aug. 1. The announcement comes just a week after UA announced the hire of a Belgian designer to liven things up in the style department.
