Yossi Levi is stepping out of the shadows with a new media venture after going viral for a secret alt identity.

You might know Levi as the founder of Gettacar, an online platform where folks could shop for a used, reasonably priced car and get it delivered the next day. (Yes, it’s been called the Gopuff of used cars.) He launched the company in 2018 with years of experience in traditional auto sales, including at his dad’s Northeast Philadelphia dealership.

“I didn’t have that much clarity yet, but I knew we could do better,” Levi told Technical.ly in 2021, about the traditional car sales model. “I couldn’t see myself continue to deliver this type of experience for the next 20 years.”

Gettacar landed on Technical.ly’s RealLIST Startups list in 2020, the same year one of Gopuff’s founders and the former COO of Venmo both called it their favorite rising Philly startup. The company went on to raise $48 million in venture capital and counted at least 150 employees split between the Philadelphia region and Tel Aviv.

But during the pandemic, after a quick swell of interest from consumers who wanted a frictionless car-buying experience, Levi and team realized they couldn’t keep up with demand. Gettacar enacted rounds of layoffs before quietly shutting down in 2023.

As he tells it, he started tweeting — anonymously — as Car Dealership Guy during this shutdown period. He soon racked up nearly 443,000 followers on X and launched a podcast.

On Friday, he made his big reveal. Watch it here (and peep the Technical.ly article screenshot at 5:18):

The 13-minute video (dare we call it a documentary?) begins with a bunch of talking heads describing Levi’s tweets’ smart insights.

Following a collage of selfie videos asking “Who the fuck is Car Dealership Guy?” we see Levi take a seat in a moody warehouse, take a deep breath, smirk, and deadpan: “Hi, I’m Yossi Levi, and I’m Car Dealership Guy.”

He (and his dad) then explain his entrepreneurial rise, from the family dealership to Gettacar to Car Dealership Guy, which has evolved into a full-on media venture “on a mission to bring transparency to the car market.”

Is the video ridiculous? Yes. Is it enthralling? Totally.
