Looking to get out into the tech community as the weather warms up this month?
There are plenty of networking and casual events going on in May, in addition to the usual panels and discussions on moving the local tech economy forward. From a couple of business advice sessions at entrepreneurship hubs to happy hours new and old, technologists and entrepreneurs will be out and about this month, looking for the next frontier of innovation in Pittsburgh.

getWITit Pittsburgh’s Cinco de Mayo Happy Hour
After re-energizing its Pittsburgh chapter earlier this year, getWITit will host one of its first big events of 2022 with a community happy hour on Cinco de Mayo. By bringing people back together in person, the organization hopes to grow its membership base and leverage new opportunities to support women working in tech locally. The event is also an anchor to the growing mission of the Pittsburgh chapter, which is currently seeking volunteers across several committees. The happy hour is open to people of all genders and backgrounds.

Robust Revenue Models
Leading this business advice session is Monica Malik, the executive director of Athletic Trauma Unit, a nonprofit fitness organization. Malik is also a serial entrepreneur and business coach who will provide attendees with the basics of building a sustainable revenue model and new tools for adjusting or maintaining those models in the future. Tailored toward early-stage business owners or new entrepreneurs, this event will help local founders build the skills they need to get cash flow.

CMO Insights
Looking for new ways to market your growing tech company? The latest executive insights event from the Pittsburgh Technology Council will have some tips for you at its upcoming CMO Insights, a luncheon featuring speakers from Duquesne Light, Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, Vorteq Coil Finishers and more. While the panelists lean toward the hardware side of the tech industry, the marketing executives from each will undoubtedly share advice that can applied to other sectors as well.

Startup Drinks PGH + State of Funding Forum
The return of warm weather means the return of one of Pittsburgh’s favorite tech happy hours: Startup Drinks! This month’s meeting will feature the usual collection of startup founders, developers, designers, storytellers and more in addition to a special panel of local investors to discuss the status of startup funding. That panel will include representatives from 412 Venture Fund, BlueTree Venture Fund, Far Out Ventures, Innovation Works, Magarac Venture Partners, Reinforced Ventures and Mountain State Capital. Be sure to stop by to trade ideas with leading entrepreneurs and learn more about how you can attract funding to your venture.

Remake Learning Day
The STEM Coding Lab and the University of Pittsburgh will partner to host Remake Learning Day later this month, which will offer educational experiences around computer science to students ages 8 to 16. Made up of different stations, representatives from STEM Coding Lab and the university will teach students about different career paths and opportunities that learning computer science can offer across robotics, animation, audio design and more. The event complements existing services from STEM Coding Lab, which offers free after-school computer science classes to grade school students in Pittsburgh.

Pricing Right
In a second in-person event hosted by Ascender this month, the entrepreneurship hub will bring reps from Donnelly-Boland and Associates together to discuss pricing models. The interactive event will allow entrepreneurs to discuss their pricing model idxeas with the facilitators, Chris Millard and Olga Pogoda, and illustrate tools that can be helpful in tracking the impact of prices on future revenue. This event is tailored to early-stage entrepreneurs and business owners.

Technical.ly’s Developers Conference
The Technical.ly Developers Conference has for years been a “tasting menu” of new, established and inventive deployments of software development, strategy and management. And this year’s version blends small group in-person discussions with pre-recorded technical talks you can digest when and how you want. Come to learn, catch up with friends and meet with a new slate of fast-growing software teams. The event will have three themes: What’s Next (problem solving in an experimental environment using new tools), Growth Stage (problem solving with tech that is being tested, deployed or scaled) and At Scale (problem solving with technology accessible by millions of people). Expect some familiar faces, too.

This year’s event brings all of the best of our signature company-building conference together.
