A study released Thursday that analyzed some 340,000 cybersecurity jobs at 18,000 companies across the U.S. confirmed something we already know: Maryland, and Baltimore in particular, is a cybersecurity hub. (Not to be confused with a tech startup hub.)
According to the first Maryland Cyber Jobs Report, 19,413 jobs in cybersecurity exist in this state, with more than 13,000 of those in Baltimore city. As Technically Baltimore has reported, GovWin has also placed the number of cybersecurity jobs in the Baltimore region above the 13,000 mark.

Of course, being a MARC train ride from Washington, D.C., there’s some reason for Maryland’s relative prowess when it comes to cyber innovation and technology. Elected officials at the state and federal levels have touted this region as the home of national cybersecurity efforts. As of this year, the Maryland Technology Development Corporation now manages a $20 million cybersecurity investment fund called Orange Knocks.
Below are four graphs from the report, itself a collaboration among multiple partners, including Inner Harbor-based cybersecurity firm CyberPoint International, and funded by the Abell Foundation.
