The Yard, a New York-based coworking space with six locations in the Big Apple, will open a Philadelphia branch with 24,000 square feet of office space this November.
Joining an increasingly competitive market, The Yard will be located in the Steele Building at 15 S. 11th St., following a transformation that includes new windows and a stripped interior, bringing back the original structure.
“We’ve always thought Philadelphia was the next natural expansion,” said Yard founder Richard Beyda. “It has some similarities to New York that we always look for. We did extensive research in town and settled at Midtown Village because it had the best vibe and correlated exactly with where we’re going as a brand.”
The bulk of the renewed space will house private offices, each fitting somewhere between one and 15 people.”The Library,” an open office space setting with storage capacity, will be offered as a mid-level option. Smaller shared spaces will also be made available.
Beyda said The Yard will rely on its flexibility and comfort to stand out in the Philadelphia market, which already features many coworking spaces.
“We have a unique brand because we can have a brand like Uber, whom we’ve hosted in the past, next to a creative professional like an architect or a writer,” Beyda said. “We can drive people from different industries to collaborate together.”
Founded in 2011 in Brooklyn, The Yard is also gearing up to open offices in Washington, D.C., and Boston by spring 2017.
