Sayfty is a local company that makes personal safety devices for women in India and promotes their use there. It’s not simply a product organization but one that also educates men and women about the ills of violence against women in India.
Founded by Brooklynite Shruti Kapoor, the company recently joined the FastFWD accelerator out of Philadelphia, a Bloomberg Philanthropies-funded nonprofit working to help social enterprises take a leap forward. The accelerator just announced a new round of nine companies in its latest class, all focused on public safety.

The second class kicks off this week. Backed by a $1 million grant from the Bloomberg Foundation, the accelerator awards $10,000 to each company, as well as mentorship, training and office space in Kensington’s Impact Hub. Every company will have the opportunity to apply for a city contract at the end of the 12-week program. The idea behind the accelerator is to cut through the bureaucratic red tape involved in the city procurement process.
