Getting a public relations strategy in order to promote a new business might not be the first priority of many startups — or a priority, period, if you’re Mark Cuban — but Evolve Communications wants to change that.
The Pikesville-based PR agency headed by Daniel Waldman, which handles media relations for startups and small businesses, just released its “Startup’s Guide to Public Relations,” an 11-page whitepaper outlining why startups should think about a PR strategy and what they can do if they don’t have the money yet to spend on a professional agency.
The guide lists several ways a new company can make use of PR:
- When launching a product
- To establish or grow a user base
- To attract investment
- To enter a new market, or earn attention for a new technology
- To position the company for purchase
- To announce a merger or acquisition
According to the Startup’s Guide, the chief reason a startup should use PR is when “it needs to prove itself—to users, to investors and to the marketplace.”
