A former VP at Discovery Education is set to head up business operations at Allovue.
Alex Morrison, who was VP of Business Partnerships over the last decade at the digital education content provider, is joining the Baltimore “edfintech” startup as Chief Business Officer. Discovery Education, a subsidiary of the media company behind the Discovery Channel, is one of the top providers of digital content for K-12 classrooms.
“We’re lucky to have found someone who understands the K-12 space and shares a passion for our vision and values,” Allovue CEO Jess Gartner said in a statement.
Allovue’s software, called Balance, allows K-12 teachers and administrators to track financial spending, and compare the financial data against education performance indicators. It’s already being used in the New Haven Public Schools, Indianapolis Public Schools, Pueblo District 70 in Colorado and Santa Ana Unified School District.
The hire follows the company’s $5.1 million Series A, which closed in December. Former PricewaterhouseCoopers manager Craig Vaughn was also hired as the company’s CFO that month.
