Ultravisual is a photo and video editing app with a built in social network that released out of Dumbo Thursday. We met the company’s community manager Jenn de la Vega at the Dumbo Tech Breakfast this past Friday and she gave us a preview.

Ms. de la Vega explained to us that the Ultravisual sees other apps putting a lot of pressure on users to publish. Ultravisual doesn’t. It lets you take lots of photos, lots of videos, play with them however you like till you’re content and then turn it into the video or the photo you really want. Plus: yes, filters.

One of the more intriguing features de la Vega showed us was the fact that the app understands if you turn the phone. So, for example, if you start taking a video holding the phone straight up, but then remember that the aspect ratio of everything that displays video is horizontal, you can turn the phone while taping. The app manages the transition in orientation just fine.

The accompanying site’s social component allows you to follow people you want and engage with their images and videos as well. ultravisual4

The app is free but only avaible on iOS. It’s not the only new creation in this space. Related apps include Montaj, which we covered. When we were at the latest opening at Transfer Gallery, we got a preview of another forthcoming iPhone app, called Generate, which explores similar territory. Not to mention more than minor players like Instagram and Vine.
